Pick Your Own Single Barrel

Selecting your own single barrel is a one-of-a-kind experience that typically is only available to the select few. Watch Hill Proper is offering up our private inventory of barrels to you. Whether you are an individual wanting to split a barrel among friends or a company looking to gift your employees with a unique bottle of bourbon, we guide you every step of the way.

You and your group of up to 8 people will meet us at one of our partner distilleries to pick your barrel. We begin with a tour of the distillery and talk about the process of making bourbon. We then find our barrels, drill a hole into each barrel and take our samples straight from the barrel at cask strength. Once the barrel is selected we then work with you to design your own label and we can even help you pick a name!

    • Groups of up to 8 people

    • Choose from 5 different barrels on the day of your barrel pick.

    • Choose from barrels of bourbon and rye whiskey from distilleries in several states (including Kentucky) typically in the 5-8 year range.

    • Take samples straight from the barrel.

    • Custom labels for your bottles.

    • Half barrels and full barrels available.

  • Prices start at $5000 for a half barrel to be picked, labeled and bottled. A half barrel will contain between 75-100 bottles and a full barrel will contain between 150-200 bottles. Generally the average price per bottle ranges from $60-$100 depending on the barrel selected.

    A $5000 (plus tax) non-refundable deposit is required to book a barrel pick experience. Pricing will vary based on type of whiskey, age, and brand.

    WHP Members receive a $450 discount on a half barrel and a $900 discount on a full barrel. Non-local WHP members receive a discount of $225 and $450 respectively.

    If you are not a member, we are making memberships available through the barrel pick experience bypassing the wait list. Join as a member prior to your barrel pick and receive the member discount.

  • We have additional options to create a full-day experience and let us handle all the logistics including:

    • Transportation to and from your hotel

    • Dinner at Watch Hill Proper

    • Overnight Accommodations

    • Additional distillery tour and tasting along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail

    • Lunch at local Louisville restaurant

  • This experience is available year-round, seven days a week with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. We generally schedule our picks at 10am and 1pm each day but custom times can be accommodated.

  • Yes this experience is only for the general public. The bottles are Not-For-Resale. Bourbon/Whiskey clubs, individuals, corporations (gifts to employees, clients), and anyone else that won’t be re-selling the bottles can buy a barrel through this barrel pick experience.

  • We strongly encourage the bottles to be picked up in person. Custom shipping quotes can be arranged but it is generally cost-prohibitive.

  • Typically bottles are available to be picked up within 1-2 weeks after the custom label is approved.
